The LinkedIn post that ended a 12-month job search (last chance to join us)

"What if my current employer sees I'm job searching?" "What if recruiters think I'm desperate?"  "What if no one responds and it proves I'm not hire-able?"

Sound familiar? If you're an HR professional who's been quietly applying to jobs online without building visibility on LinkedIn, you're not alone. I hear this mindset from so many of my clients - experienced HR leaders with decades of expertise who are terrified to make their job search visible.

The reality is entirely different from what that anxious voice in your head is telling you. Most hiring happens through relationships and visibility, not anonymous online applications. The HR leaders landing roles quickly aren't the ones hiding in the shadows - they're the ones people actually know, remember, and think of when opportunities arise.

That post you're agonizing over? It could lead to a coffee meeting. That coffee meeting could lead to an interview. That interview could lead to your next role.

But none of that happens if you stay invisible.

Start small, think strategically

So start. Even if you're currently employed. Even if you're nervous about visibility. Even if you're convinced posting won't lead anywhere.

Do a few simple things like:

  • Comment thoughtfully on posts by people at your target companies

  • Share relevant industry articles that demonstrate your expertise

  • Post about an HR challenge you recently solved (without naming your company)

  • Share lessons learned that showcase your value to potential employers

  • Ask questions that get you on the radar of hiring managers and peers

The goal isn't to announce "I'm job searching!" - it's to build visibility as an expert so opportunities find you. You're not just filling your LinkedIn feed; you're creating touchpoints that remind your network of your value.

When one post opens doors

Many HR leaders that I work with feel stuck in their job search because they're only applying online and waiting for responses that never come. They don't know how to make themselves visible without announcing they're looking. They're paralyzed by fear of being discovered.

My client Sarah Boulton is proof that strategic visibility beats silent applications every time. She had been made redundant from her role as a Head of Learning and Development. She had been looking for a new job for 12 months when we started working together in the Job Search Accelerator program. During that entire time, she had never posted on LinkedIn - not once.

I encouraged her to write a simple post, saying she was looking for a new role. Once she did, she had a flood of new connections, well-wishers, and coffee meetings lined up in her diary.

One of those connections liked her background. They kept in touch periodically over the following six months, and when a new role opened up at his company, he called Sarah in for an interview.

She got the job.

All from one post. One moment of courage. One decision to stop hiding and start being findable.

To hear more about Sarah’s experience, listen to her interview on the Women in HR podcast here.

Your next career move starts in 24 hours

This is exactly the kind of breakthrough that happens in the Job Search Accelerator for Women in HR. Over 12 weeks, participants don't just learn how to post on LinkedIn - they build a complete job search strategy that includes:

  • Multi-channel approach (not just online applications)

  • Personal brand development that showcases your unique value

  • Strategic networking that feels authentic, not salesy

  • A supportive community of senior HR women who truly get it

  • Confidence to put yourself out there (even when it's scary)

Christine H. joined the program dreading networking events and lacking confidence in what made her different from other HRBPs. She said, "Renee's strengths-based coaching technique has given me greater confidence and a more positive mindset that helped me tremendously."

By the end, she had secured her target senior HRBP role and gained career skills for the long-term.

If you've been stuck in your job search for months (or years). If you're tired of sending applications into the void. If you're ready to stop hiding and start getting noticed by the right people - this is your moment.

Your expertise deserves to be seen. Your next opportunity is waiting. But only if you're willing to become findable.

Do you want to still be in the same place six months from now, or will you be like Sarah and Christine - finally moving forward?
