How one LinkedIn post landed my client her next HR role

"What if my boss sees this post?" "What if people think I don't know what I'm talking about?" "What if no one likes my content?"

Sound familiar? If you're an HR professional who's been lurking on LinkedIn instead of posting, you're not alone. I hear this mindset from so many of my clients - experienced HR leaders with decades of expertise who are terrified to share their insights online.

The reality is entirely different from what that anxious voice in your head is telling you. People are not thinking about you as much as you're thinking about yourself. Everyone is focused on their own lives, their own challenges, their own career journeys.

That post you're agonizing over? Most people will scroll past it in seconds. But for the few who stop to read, engage, and remember your name - that's where the impact happens.

Start small, think big

So start. Even if you are not ready. Even if your content isn't perfect. Even if you're convinced no one cares what you have to say.

So start. Even if you are not ready. Even if your content isn't perfect. Even if you're convinced no one cares what you have to say.

Do a few simple things like: ✓ Comment thoughtfully on someone else's post - share a real experience or insight ✓ Share an industry article with a one-line insight (this is the easiest win!) ✓ Post about a recent HR trend you've noticed at your organization ✓ Share a lesson learned from a challenging situation (without naming companies) ✓ Ask a question that sparks meaningful discussion in your network

The goal isn't perfection - it's progress. Every comment, every share, every small post builds your reputation as a subject matter expert. You're not just posting content; you're demonstrating your expertise, your perspective, and your value.

When one post changes everything

Many HR leaders that I work with feel stuck in their careers because they don't know how to showcase their value, tell their story, or connect with the right people. But something as small as writing a post on LinkedIn can be the first step to helping them achieve all three of those things.

My client Jess is proof that courage beats perfection every time. She had been made redundant from her role as a Head of Learning and Development. She had been looking for a new job for 12 months when we started working together. During that entire time, she had never posted on LinkedIn - not once.

I encouraged her to write a simple post, saying she was looking for a new role. Once she did, she had a flood of new connections, well-wishers, and coffee meetings lined up in her diary.

One of those connections liked her background. They kept in touch periodically over the following six months, and when a new role opened up at his company, he called Jess in for an interview.

She got the job.

All from one post. One moment of courage. One decision to stop hiding her expertise and start sharing it.

Your next career move starts here

If you want to understand how these strategies can work for you, join my upcoming Masterclass, "Unlock your HR Career Potential." I'll help you showcase your value, tell your story, and connect with the right people.

This isn't just about LinkedIn posts - it's about positioning yourself as the HR leader you already are. You can go from stuck to sought after. From invisible to influential.

Your expertise deserves to be seen. Your voice deserves to be heard.

The question isn't whether you're ready to post. The question is: are you ready to unlock your potential?
